Fuller’s earth is an absorbent clay material that has been used for different purposes for many years. It has a history of being used in the ‘fulling’ step in wool making. It was used to remove oil and dirt from the wool. In many countries, it’s passed on by several generations for face and hair care. It is now increasingly used in cosmetic products.

Multani mitti is now artificially manufactured due to its increasing demand. It mainly consists of magnesia, silica, etc., in varied proportions. It is an inexpensive product that lessens pain, reduces acne, and cleanses skin and hair. It is a natural product, so it normally doesn’t have any side effects. Treats Acne
For treating your worst enemy―pimples, use this face mask. Take 2 tbsp. of fuller’s earth with 1 tbsp. of neem leaf paste. Add a dash of camphor and rose water to mix it well. Apply this on the acne-affected areas and keep it for 15 minutes. Rinse it with water. You can use it once a week.
Removes Oil from the Skin
If your skin is oily, you can mix multani mitti with rose water and apply. You can also add sandalwood powder if you want. Apply this paste and wash after it has dried. This mask can be used 2 – 3 times a week.
Improves Skin Texture and Color
Take 2 tbsp. each of yogurt and fuller’s earth each. Mix it and keep it for 30 minutes. Add a tbsp. of mint powder to it. Now, apply it and keep it for 20 – 30 minutes. Wash it off later. This mask will improve your skin tone to a great extent.
Tightens Sagging Skin
Take 1 tbsp. each of fuller’s earth, glycerin, and honey. Mix it and then add one egg white to it. Apply this on your face and keep it on till it dries. Do not move much while it’s drying. Wash it after it has completely dried. You could use this face mask once a week.
Reduces Scars
Multani mitti helps fade away scars or any injury marks. Take carrot pulp, olive oil, and fuller’s earth in equal proportions. Mix it and apply on the mark or scar. Keep it for almost 20 minutes and then rinse it off. You can use it twice a week. Use this paste to achieve effects to a longer extent.

Gets Rid of Dandruff
Try this hair mask to get rid of dandruff effectively. Take orange peel powder and fuller’s earth in equal proportions. Apply it properly to your scalp and keep it for 20 minutes. Wash it with a mild shampoo. This can be done 2 times in a week.
Removes Extra Oil and Cleanses
If your hair is very oily, try this pack. Soak the powder in a bowl of water for 3 – 4 hours. Mix reetha powder and again keep it for half an hour. Massage the mixture onto your scalp and keep it on for 10 minutes. Wash it and you’ll get clean and shiny hair.
Solution for Split Ends
Apply olive oil and massage it onto your scalp. Keep your hair wrapped up in a warm towel for 2 hours. This allows the oil to get properly absorbed in the scalp. While washing your hair, use fuller’s earth that is soaked in milk (buttermilk, if you have oily hair). This works effectively for split ends.
Deep Conditioning
Take 4 tbsp. of fuller’s earth, ½ cup yogurt, juice of half a lemon, 2 tbsp. honey, and mix it into a paste. Apply and keep it for 15 minutes. Wash it off with a shampoo and see the difference.
Betters Strength and Shine
Soak multani mitti in water for 2 hours. Rub it on your scalp and hair. Keep it for 5 – 7 minutes and wash it off. This will give you strong, thick, and shiny hair.
Other Uses
Treats Skin Burns and Insect Bites
You can use it as a hot or cold compress. Simply mix it with hot or cold water accordingly, and apply onto the affected part. It heals muscle pain too. It has cooling qualities that will soothe sunburns. It is also used to get relief from menstrual pain.
Removes Stains

It has always been used as a cleansing agent. Use fuller’s earth to remove stains that don’t go easily. Use it to remove oil or wax stains. Just put some on the stained part and keep it for the night. You can just brush it off the next morning. It takes away the stain with it.

It was also used in laundries to remove stains. It proves better than many soaps and oils.

As a Litter Box
It is used as litter boxes for cats or small dog breeds that cannot go out of the house to defecate. Its absorbing feature makes it possible as it absorbs the bad smell.
Used in the Entertainment Industry
It is a kind of safe ‘dust’. It does no harm to the skin or hair in any way. Hence, it is used in special-effect scenes where there are blasts or dust clouds. It is also used to show dirt on clothes because it can be cleaned with ease.

Multani mitti is known to improve blood circulation when applied on any part of the body. It helps in removing dead skin on our body too.
Note: In case of face masks, avoid using ingredients that can cause an allergy. Test a portion of the face mask on the inner part of your elbow to see if there is any skin reaction before using it on your face.
